Altea Narici is a travelling artist and performer from Italy. She trained as a classical cellist in Rome with M° Giovanni Sollima. Her music, usually for cello and voice, is inspired by wild nature and her travels.
She collaborates with marine biologists using arts in outreach activities, and shares her work on her blog www.heronontheroof.com
-After years of classical cello training and massive involvement in youth orchestra programs (and a psychology bachelor somewhere in between), in 2017 I started exploring new ways of learning, and developing a personal use of both my instrument & voice.
I started by creating original pieces from spontaneous improvisations. During these years my research has developed through different dimensions, influenced by traditional, jazz, folk and Musical Theatre repertoires, and interweaving with travels, community engagement, ecology and conservation.
And it still feels like this is just the beginning of it!-
Between January and June 2020 she was in Oregon, US for "New Worlds: an artistic journey", her project of art research and outreach on ecology-related topics supported by the FUP Friends of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, which will resume in early 2022.
Altea is currently working on her first illustration project for children about wildlife conservation, which will be available in June, and plans to record the first CD of her music between summer and fall 2021.
