We currently have 3 positions open to join our council and work with the VAS team to deliver our exciting programme of events.

Trustees and co-opt council members are not paid, however this is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in the nuts and bolts of exhibitions and residencies, as well as having a voice in a team who are working hard to support the future of the visual arts in Scotland. The council meets online every 8 weeks, with smaller groups meeting more regularly to plan projects, select for exhibitions, or gather on site for the hands-on work required at exhibition venues.

Location. Anywhere in Scotland, ideally with a willingness to travel. We have an extensive programme of exhibitions and events in 2026/7 across Scotland.

One Trustee role vacancy. This is a 3 year tenure, a legal declaration has to be submitted to OSCR via our lawyer. We would look for a full commitment to this time period. Anyone applying would first submit a CV and cover letter, following this there would be an interview with the VAS Office Holder team, and any appointment would be voted on by the board.

Two Co-opt council member vacancies. These are non-voting roles, however attendance at council meetings and involvement in the running of the programme is expected. This can be for up to 12 months and provides a trial route into a potential full trustee role without the full commitment that role requires. An informal interview with the VAS Office Holder team would take place, prior to presentation to the board and voting.

Who are we looking for ?

Comms/PR skills

As the programme grows we are looking to bring someone onto our council who has a background or some experience in this area. We have a small comms team managing newsletters and social media, but we are looking to add to this key part of our operation.

Finance/figures/accounts

To support our incredibly hard working treasurer and build resilience into our team we are looking for someone who is well-versed in finance, figures, spreadsheets, with a willingness to upskill (VAS will provide training) and support this important area.

Capable, flexible, ideally a driver (with car or van) with capacity to support at installs and de-installs

Someone who is keen to be involved with the work of putting on exhibitions, whether large or small scale. In this role you would be working as part of a team on site at exhibitions venues, being involved in selection of artworks, and supporting the logistics of these events. A fantastic role in which to expand your existing skills in this area, or come at the role with time, capacity, and a willingness to learn.

How to apply

Please send a CV and cover letter to vice-chair@visualartsscotland.org detailing which role you are interested in, your relevant experience and what you feel you can bring to the team. We’ll be in touch to set up an initial chat or online meeting.
