Connor

Scott

Connor Scott is an Edinburgh based artist whose practice investigates materiality through painterly forms, focussing on an emotional connection to the ephemerality of physical matter. His work is deeply rooted in process-based experimentation, and the implementation of unconventional printing techniques that involve the deconstruction of found printed material (most often comics or magazines). This involves a solvent-transfer process when working with a support, yet oftentimes Scott’s work forgoes traditional painting supports, and works directly onto the found material. The overarching principle to his practice being making-via-unmaking; Scott overlays found material and then excavates the work out from layers of transferred images, paint, and paste. Destruction of material is as valid a tool to Scott as paint, In this way he finds an unconventional emotional relationship between the deconstruction of abstract painting, and material being.
