Margaret
Gray
Margaret Gray is a contemporary Scottish painter based in West Lothian. Working primarily in acrylic, she creates atmospheric seascapes and landscapes inspired by the shifting light, skies, and coastlines of Scotland. Her paintings explore mood, memory, and the emotional connection between land, sea, and sky. Using layered colour, expressive brushwork, and intuitive mark-making, she captures fleeting moments of light and atmosphere rather than literal representations of place. Influenced by the dramatic Scottish environment, her work often focuses on horizons, changing weather, and luminous skies reflected across water. Through abstraction and suggestion, she invites viewers to experience a sense of stillness, wonder, and personal reflection. Recent work has been selected for exhibitions across Scotland, including Paisley, Edinburgh, and Bo’ness.
