Beaver

I am a Scottish contemporary visual artist who lives and works on the North Fife coast, my recent work has been influenced by the ever changing light and atmospheric conditions of the river Tay. My current working process, with the use of a plasterer’s trowel and oil paint, produces landscapes from memory and imagination that sometimes have a traditional sense that is very Scottish and sometimes more surreal that reflects the turmoil of a changing world. Oil paint, for me, has introduced a new way of acknowledging my immediate surroundings to enable a better understanding of the world and its impact emotionally. Several themes are evident in some works with an emphasis on focusing on the horizon as structure that incorporates visual languages both local and international from; colour field painting, seascapes, waterline painting on boat hulls to flags. The coastal view is also an inspiration for creating, an economical abstraction as possible, an image that both captures the essence of a place and its aesthetic beauty.
