Ruth is an Edinburgh based designer maker, specialising in ceramics, working between digital and analogue processes to translate the movement of swing dance into tangible sculptures. Swing dance is the umbrella term for a group of mostly partner dances done to jazz music, originating from the 1920/30s. Having been a dancer for 9 years she uses this subject matter to push what digital tools are capable of, showing layers of abstraction of dance. Ruth’s practice is informed by her professional experience as a digital making technician. With the spanning of multiple disciplines, her practice invites reflection on interaction.
