Alex Ens is a research-led painter with a background in Literature (BA Hons, University of Cambridge) and Philosophy (MA, UCL). Her painting style involves a series of converging lines or ‘scaffolding’, and tight, geometric compositions. Ens’ preferred medium is oil on paper, and the way she treats the surface has become essential to her process. Much of Ens’ work focuses on domestic spaces and the psychological battles that take place within. Her painting Making Amends won the Stanley Grimm Prize at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition 2025. Her painting Perpendicular Lines (The Honeymoon Series) is currently on display at Laura Wilder Gallery, Glasgow. Alex Ens was raised in The Scottish Borders and currently lives in Glasgow.
