I am a wood artist and maker based in Scotland, creating original handcrafted objects under the name Papa Bear WoodWorking®. My main body of work focuses on sculptural clocks, combining the natural character of wood with carving, brass, resin and traditional hand-finishing techniques. I also create wooden sculptures, crosses and one-of-a-kind functional objects. Each piece begins with the shape, grain and imperfections of the timber, which guide the final design rather than being hidden. My work is closely connected with storytelling. I am also the author of Papa Bear’s Eight Magical Clocks, a children’s book inspired by the idea that handmade objects can carry memories, meaning and their own stories. My aim is to create work that is both visually distinctive and emotionally meaningful.
