I am a Latvian artist based in Scotland, working primarily with ceramics. My practice explores themes of home, belonging, and memory through personal experience, childhood recollections, and the experience of migration. Having built my life in Scotland while remaining deeply connected to Latvia has led me to question what home truly means. Returning to the place where I grew up, I find that it no longer feels like home, as both the place and I have changed over time. Yet I do not feel entirely at home in Scotland, where I often remain a foreigner in the eyes of others. Existing between these realities forms the foundation of my practice. Through my work, I ask what makes a place feel like home. Is it a physical location, the people around us, our memories, or something we carry within ourselves? Ceramics provides the material language through which I explore these questions. Its fragility reflects the vulnerability of belonging, while its association with domestic objects evokes everyday rituals, family histories, and childhood memories. Clay records touch, time, and care, preserving traces of lived experience. The snail has become a recurring motif within my work. Carrying its home wherever it goes, it becomes a metaphor for migration, resilience, and the way we carry memories and identity throughout our lives. Rather than presenting home as a fixed place, my sculptures suggest it is shaped through memory, experience, and movement, inviting viewers to reflect on their own search for belonging.
