LISA
GORMLEY
I am a multidisciplinary artist with over 20 years’ experience in Art & Design. My passion for Art & Design, collaboration and teaching continues to evolve. Alongside my personal practice, I lecture across multidisciplinary design, including textiles, craft, interiors, photography, visual communication, and social media, with lecturing roles at West College Scotland. Previous lecturing roles at Edinburgh College of Art, London College of Communication, and Swansea School of Art. After studying Printed Textiles at The Glasgow School of Art, where my love of art & design, colour, drawing, pattern, and textiles began. Following TexPrint and industry experience, I continued my training with an MA in Printed Textiles at The Royal College of Art. Within my own practice, I use words taken from experiences of verbal abuse and physical violence. Through my textile works I reclaim harmful language by transforming it into decorative stitched patterns and surfaces alongside the textile text I am developing abstract multi-stitch pieces which are a form of abstract expressionism. Through drawing, painting and imperfect stitching, I turn words and emotions connected to trauma into something visually beautiful and personally empowering. The process has become a way for me to unpack the trauma, process the attack, and reclaim my peace through slow textile making. With this series “Body of Work” workshops and exhibition will follow.
