My work follows in my footsteps. Inspired by journey, my work is autobiographical, depicting the places I have passed through: My recent body of paintings map out my epic journey across Spain on foot. With hundreds of kilometers of ground covered, my paintings stretch across multiple canvases to showcase the stunning, diverse nature-scenes. Working in pencil and acrylic paint, my process is an act of remembering. Across canvases, detailed mark-making and opaque washes intersect and showcase the faulterings of memory. The use of empty space and thin layers builds a sense of translucency which comes with time. A panorama of my work exhibits fleeting moments of paths, trees and plants. The richness of her paintings ignite a sense of adventure and hopeful wonder. All hinting towards the sublime; ultimately, casting the viewer in the role Fredrichs silhouetted explorer. They are a celebration of nature and an invitation to the viewer: “come on this journey and we can walk together.”
