Based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Texture and balance lead my process, and the final piece is often found by following a tenuous thread only found through the act of making a painting. The physicality of oil on metal is testing and satisfying at once, the slow drying process giving the paint more elasticity, but also requiring endless patience. This time demands reflection and thought that then informs the development of the piece. Obsession with and repetition of a subject matter helps me explore and resolve my ideas. Through a process of layering painting over painting – testing each composition to its limits and covering those that don’t work, the correct piece finds its way onto the correct surface – historied by the textures of what came before.
