Joanne Soroka won the Craft Scotland Award for her 2023 tapestry weaving ‘Still I Rise’.
“Having suffered two significant bereavements, I took inspiration from the poem by Maya Angelou, Still I Rise, with its themes of resilience, perseverance and endurance. The cloud shapes suggest rising, lifting. The texture emphasises their ethereal nature, yet they also have substance. There is a positive message, yet it hides the grief beneath it.” @joannesoroka
