Scottish Ornithologists’ Club - VAS MEMBERS EXHIBITION

Mar 19th 2024

Visual Arts Scotland is delighted to announce a new partnership exhibition with the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club (SOC) which will take place in Aberlady,1st August -  15th September 2024.

The exhibition will use birds as its primary focus and starting point, a prism by which to explore a myriad of ideas. Whether it be mythology, symbolism, folklore, song, flight, superstition or habitat, birds have always had the ability to stimulate wonder in us. We are looking for a broad response to this theme - not necessarily only  figurative representations.

We are keen to receive submissions from the breadth of VAS membership, from painting, print, drawing to applied arts and crafts. There is also an opportunity to use the outside garden space for external sculptures and artworks.

Please note that the amount of works expected to be selected are approximately 50, with 3 outdoor works. The gallery operates a hanging system and all 2D works need to be fitted with D rings. The outdoor works will be at artists' risks, as gallery insurance does not cover theft or storm damage.

- Submission and hanging is free of charge.

- Commissions: SOC will take 30% plus VAT (approximately 36%) on any works sold.

If you wish to view the space, the centre is open from 10am-4pm Wednesday to Sunday until the 17th April, and 10am -5pm Wednesday to Sunday during the summer months.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF VAS AT THE TIME YOUR APPLICATION AND EXHIBITION. We have moved away from PayPal as a means of paying for membership and now ask that members make payments to the VAS bank account. Full details on how to make payments can be found here.
