Dec 1st 2019

This summer we visited Degree Shows across Scotland. We look for the emerging Artists, Designers & Makers whose work best exemplifies the fresh and dynamic approach to contemporary applied and fine arts which Visual Arts Scotland seeks to support.

From sixteen wonderful shortlisted Graduates we whittled the selection down to five aspiring artists who will form our 2019  Annual Exhbition Graduate Showcase.

We present our selected finalists, the third of whom is Joseph Buhat, Gray's School of Art

Missing out on ritual rites and other ceremonies that take place in the Philippines, he is in limbo by having a dual identity. Heavily influenced by these practices, he reconstructs images by using the pictorial spaces of childhood memories and non-specific fictional or real experiences (that he may or may not have partaken in), making the design appear vague and dream-like.

Joseph Buhat graduated at Aberdeen’s Grays School of Art in Painting BA(hons) with 1st class honours. He has been awarded multiple awards such as the RSA New Contemporaries, RGU Arts and Heritage Award, shortlisted for the GHAT award.
