Hastilow

My work is largely collage based, combining images, ephemera and small objects. Having worked in museums for many years, I am fascinated by the power of artefacts to inspire curiosity, evoke memories and associations and make connections to past lives. I love old scrapbooks and picture postcards and the wonderful source of imagery they provide. Most of all I love little vintage toys – celluloid dollies and hard plastic creatures that have been cherished by unknown hands and survive with their own hidden stories. My latest work brings together these interests within the structure of the box frame – collecting, researching, displaying, and creating narratives around small artefacts. In doing this, I hope to create windows onto small worlds infused with nostalgia, gentle humour, and a hint of darkness.
