Petra

Ronnegard-Hewitt

Disciplines: Painting

Location: Mauchline

Materials: Acrylic, Oil, Watercolour
Petra Rönnegard-Hewitt is an artist whose work is inspired by family holidays spent in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and from her Swedish heritage and childhood memories. The dramatic coastlines, shifting light, and vibrant colours of the sea and sand have had a lasting influence on her artistic practice. Working primarily in oils, Petra favours a fast, expressive approach, often using palette knives and her fingers to create texture and movement. She frequently works on several canvases at once, allowing spontaneity and energy to flow through her work, resulting in a prolific and dynamic output. Alongside her painting practice, Petra draws constant inspiration from the natural world around her. She enjoys gardening and walking in her local woods with her dogs, always carrying a sketchbook and pens to capture fleeting moments and ideas. Drawing forms an important part of her creative process and acts as a visual diary and a mindfulness practice. Petra enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials and techniques. Her floral works often incorporate mixed media, combining watercolour, inks, and hard pastels. More recently, she has begun using modelling paste mixed with sand collected from Clachtoll Beach on the NC500, physically embedding elements of the Scottish landscape into her paintings.
