My work explores the intersection of art and faith. Through geometry and radiant light, I seek to create paintings that honor reverence while speaking to a contemporary audience. My paintings explore the tension between two symbolic grammars: the modern contextual use of symbols as signs to be remixed and the believer’s grammar, where symbols carry fixed meaning inseparable from their scriptural purpose. I extract and experiment with motifs from sacred art, transforming them into non-narrative, numinous abstract cosmologies utilizing bold color and geometrical shapes. My paintings are a form of devotion, opening a meditative space that embraces both a secular and spiritual audience in the experience of the spiritual atmosphere of the numinous. They transcend the ordinary by visualizing Western Christian doctrine through a universal visual language that is abstract, symbolic, and contemporary.
