Jenny Smith is a painter-printmaker living and working on the Isle of Lewis. Her work invites us to explore what the definition of drawing can be in its broadest sense. She draws with a variety of mediums, including printing plates, a laser cutter and more recently cyanotype drawing/prints which investigate sunlight as a drawing medium. She often uses everyday plants and herbs that are believed to have medicinal qualities as subject matter. Jenny is a Gaelic learner and the rich history and culture of the Gaelic language and Hebridian landscape also informs her work.

Previous Experience

Jenny gained a first class degree in Drawing and painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and has won a number of awards for her work, including the Royal Scottish Academy award for painting and Maclaine Watters Medal. She exhibits nationally and internationally and has work held in public and private collections including artist books in the Tate Gallery and National Galleries of Scotland Libraries.
