Valerie Barker is an artist, cartographer and designer. Her work includes botanical illustration, estate maps and embroidery.
Currently she is exploring the use of silk and thread to construct landscapes and seascapes observed on and around her Highland croft and in the wider environment.
Her research includes study of the literature that illustrates the significance of her subject locations for the people who have recorded them through history and who see them as worthy of note in the present day. Each picture is accompanied by quotation from the associated literature and this may be read on Valerie's website: www.valerieinscotland.com
