My current work explores the idea of both the internal and external personal landscape with particular interest in how one integrates another cultural identity into one’s current environment. The development of my work has been inspired from having lived in different countries but I find myself consistently coming back to the British industrial landscape of my youth. This is now being consolidated through the recycling of my own black and white film by taking stills from the film footage and developing a body of work through the media of printmaking. I find the layering in screen print compatible with the idea of cultural layering. The chosen motifs come from my own archive of images. These are selected and placed to underline the coexistence of natural beauty and the man made environment. This theme of coexisting and containing ‘opposites’ runs through my work and is shown sometimes subtly through the use of colour and sometimes more obviously by the juxtapositioning of the motifs themselves.
