“While I studied Drawing and Painting at the Edinburgh College of Art, I have since returned to my earlier interest in textile art. I first exhibited at the Embroiderers Guild exhibition at Hampton Court in 1987 and since then with the Society of Women Artists and annually with Visual Arts Scotland at the Royal Scottish Academy Building. Other venues include the Commonwealth Society, London, the McManus Gallery, Dundee and Kelvin grove Art Gallery, Glasgow. Group touring exhibitions include “The Three Strands Exhibition” (NSEG), and “Raw Materials” (Sponsored by the Scottish Arts Council). In recent years I have explored a broad range of subject matter, including Pictish / Celtic themes, mythological illustration and animal studies. I have developed a distinctive style that includes a blend of dyed and painted silks, machine embroidery and appliqué mainly, but not exclusively, in large wall hangings.” Elma Colvin
