I feel my work takes me in the direction of the elements of nature and the importance of presence and atmosphere. I paint the moment and feeling of Time and Place. My favoured subject is landscape and the Scottish painters, past and present, influence me. Ethel Walker and John Lowrie Morrison have inspired me into using strong colours and the softness of light comes from the study of The Glasgow Boys and my dissertation investigation into the Kirkcudbright School of Painters. My Scottish roots are reflected in my painting and my theme, A Sense of Time and Place, comes from the light and drama of the southwest coastline of Galloway.
