Gill Tyson is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and The University of Edinburgh, with an MA(Hons) in Fine Art. She has specialized in Printmaking for many years, working from Edinburgh Printmakers, where she is vice-chairman. Her favourite methods of working are in lithography and wood engraving.

“As an experienced lithographer I can now enjoy employing a multitude of techniques in a medium which is fundamentally based on the antipathy of grease and water. Soap washes, manière noire (the the lithographic equivalent of the dark arts), acid biting, blends, traditional tusche washes and crayon, can be exploited to achieve just what I want, sometimes combining them with screenprinted layers and chine collé.”

Gill is interested in the influence of man on seemingly natural, and often remote, environments She has used landscapes as diverse as the Namib Desert and Orkney in her images.

She exhibits regularly at the Open Eye Gallery and Edinburgh Printmakers and has been in exhibitions throughout the UK, Europe and the US. Her work is in private and public collections at home and abroad including Aberdeen Arts Gallery, Royal Bank of Scotland and the Smithsonian Institution.
