  • Work
  • Biography
Robbie has shown his distinctive narrative paintings throughout the UK for the last 25 years. His work, inspired the characters and the places he has lived and worked, has won several national awards including the Guthrie Medal at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1997.
Born in Liverpool in 1964, Robbie grew up in Aberdeenshire, before graduating in Painting at Edinburgh College of Art in 1990. Over the last 25 years, Robbie has successfully combined a career as both an artist and art college lecturer. He taught painting at Grays School of Art, was Head of Fine Art at University of Chichester, also lectured at Kent Institute of Art and Design and Oxford Brookes University. Robbie moved back in Scotland in 2007 to become the coordinator of short courses at Edinburgh College of Art and now part of The University of Edinburgh where he is now a lecturer. Robbie was President of Visual Arts Scotland from 2013-2016.
‘My current work straddles daydreams, observation and rural and urban reconstruction of to which I add buildings and people - and the occasional Dalek as a cathartic exposition of barriers to opportunities.’
