Michelle Duke

I am a freelance Visual Artist based in Dundee, Scotland. I create original artwork for exhibition and sale in a wide variety of media using drawn, painted, printed, stitched and constructed techniques, often with an emphasis on textured surface detail. I also work on interdisciplinary projects incorporating writing, sound and movement. My art-making springs from a natural curiosity and fascination with the multi-layered experience of living and learning. Above all, the ingenuity of the natural world provides endless inspiration with the scope and beauty of its intricate forms and processes. Another strong element of my art practice and research concerns the preservation of worldwide cultural heritage, partly as a result of caring for and documenting a rich diversity of historic collections material while employed by Dundee City Museums and the National Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh.
