Jean Oberlander is a knitted textile artist and student at Royal College of Art from Scotland. Her work amalgamates the old and the new, and enjoys showcasing the versatility of the knit stitch and plays with the interactions knit has with space and the body. Cultural connotations of knitting and how it is viewed feed into and influence her textile pieces made by hand and by machine.
Mark making and collage turn into knit and vice versa, both feeding into each other to create knitted pieces and knitwear that both inhibit and detract from the stigmas that surround the loop.
