MEET THE ARTIST

Inspired by a strong connection to sites and their history, Erin uses archival research in combination with site photography as her starting point. She has a keen interest in mixed media approaches to create new hybrid fabrics which utilise methods of handcraft and the benefits of modern technologies. Often challenging the potential of familiar everyday base materials through process, she creates textiles with interesting colour harmonies and intriguing tactile qualities.

Her final year project, Homage to the Studio, drew inspiration from the interior of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Glasgow School of Art building, post 2014 fire, and the impact that Japanese art and design had on Mackintosh’s work. Erin pays respect to both Mackintosh and the arts of Japan, yet through her own visual language endeavours to push the potential form of printed textiles.
