Caledonia – Catalonia
3rd of October 2012
Hawthornden Lecture Theatre
National Gallery of Scotland, The Mound, Edinburgh
Jacqueline Watt, painter, will give an illustrated lecture on her work as recipient of the prestigious Charles Rennie Mackintosh residency 2011 and describe her experiences during this informative time spent in Collioure in the South of France.
For over ten years, the Roussillon town of Collioure in the south of France has awarded painting residencies to Scottish artists, maintaining the link established by artist/architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh who lived and worked there towards the end of his career.
Following in footsteps previously trodden by Matisse, Derain and others including Mackintosh himself, Watt describes her time in Collioure, expands on her research into some of the less known and unexpected history of this fascinating region and shows examples of her working practice, including sketchbooks working drawings and a resulting body of work.
